About
About Fenny Suter, Founder of Suter Design & Co.
Following the historic traditions of stained glass serving as storytelling devices, I create art that responds to contemporary religion and politics. My artworks depict daily private moments that explore issues relating to bodily autonomy. I also create fantastical landscapes that serve as peaceful escape portals. Each light-catching panel is constructed of carefully chosen colors, textures, and opacities of glass. I employ the traditional copper foil process for my work. Glass first is hand cut into desired shapes. The edges then are ground, wrapped in copper foil, and soldered together with lead and tin. Patina sometimes is applied to give the soldered joints color, and then the piece is polished with wax. While the entire process may be labor intensive, the completed artwork is a transportive vessel to places of respite and reflection.
